Gas Utility Clerk / Bookkeeper – Chateh

The DTFN Natural Gas Utility has a full-time position available for a Gas Utility Clerk/Bookkeeper based out of their main office in Chateh.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Respond to public inquiries
  • Receive, direct and relay telephone and email messages
  • Provide word processing and secretarial support
  • Record and input all pertinent information providing efficiency, accuracy, and confidentiality
  • Maintain the general filing system and file all correspondence
  • Other miscellaneous and administrative functions
  • Bookkeeping duties include;
    • Reconcile accounts
    • Maintain general ledgers and financial statements
    • Data entry of all A/P and A/R and prepare for approval

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 combined with office administration or relevant training in computer applications
  • Proficiency in using Excel/Word
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to complete complex administrative tasks with minimal supervision
  • Bookkeeping experience with a good understanding of debits, credits, and accounting entries (required)
  • Solid planning, organizing and problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement and excellent customer services
  • To read, understand and comply with DTFN and Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd safety policy, safe work practices, procedures, and rules
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands

The successful candidate must be dependable and reliable, and ability to speak the Dene language fluently is considered an asset. Room to train the right candidate for field work is an option, as well. The successful candidate must submit a current criminal record check; must provide own transportation and a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License. Vacuum Truck Driver – Chateh

The DTFN Operations and Maintenance Department requires a full-time Vacuum Truck Driver for the community of Chateh. Rate negotiable based on experience. Hours 8-5 PM. Must live in area, travel is not provided. Driver reports to the Chateh OMD Foreman.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • The safe removal, transportation and disposal of sewage and wastewater from septic tanks
  • Responsible for providing weekly operational records, performing minor maintenance and servicing, maintaining interior and exterior appearance of the unit
  • Staying current with transportation laws and regulations

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating a Tandem Truck
  • Minimum Class 3 License with Air Brakes Endorsement (provide proof with resume)
  • Provide a Driver’s Abstract with resume (must have a clean record)
  • Must pass a physical exam
  • Hold valid safety certificates (OMD assists in safety certification updates, as required)
  • Must be available on short notice
  • Ability to speak the Dene language is an asset

General Labourer for Operations and Maintenance Department – Chateh

The DTFN Operations and Maintenance Department (OMD) is currently seeking to fill a vacant position for a full-time General Labourer to do maintenance work with the OMD Foreman in Chateh. Must live in the area, travel is not provided.

DUTIES Include:

  • Regular maintenance of buildings, doing minor repairs, ensuring walkways and grounds are maintained
  • Reporting any problems to the proper department
  • Other duties as maybe required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum education, literacy (good reading and written communication skills)
  • Experience/willing to do continuous training in building maintenance
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical repairs
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintenance manuals
  • Reliable and dependable as an employee in the workplace

ASSISTED LIVING (Adult Care) TEMPORARY WORKER BUSHE RIVER

 The Dene Tha’ Social Development program has a position available for a Temporary Assisted Living (Homemaker) Worker in the community of Bushe River. This is a full-time TEMPORARY position.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Performing light housekeeping tasks in Elders homes
  • Laundry and meal preparation
  • Transporting Elders for essential shopping needs
  • Reporting Elders in need of medical attention to the Public Health Nurse
  • Completing daily and monthly activity reports
  • Promote independence & wellbeing of clients

Qualifications:

  • Must have effective written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the needs of elderly and incapacitated clients
  • Ability to speak the Dene language is a definite asset
  • Must have safety certification in First Aid.

 Position:

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Payroll Processing Clerk ensures efficient and productive processing of payroll information for employees of DTFN, in a concise and confidential manner within the established finance policy and legislated timelines. Includes other duties as required by the Senior Accountant and/or the Director of Corporate Services.

Qualifications:     – Office Administration Diploma or Experience in Finance, Accounting, or Payroll

Administration

– Minimum Grade 12 education

– Must be computer literate with knowledge of MS Word and Excel

– ACCPAC accounting program knowledge is essential

– Ability to work independently and take directions from supervisor

Infrastructure Services Manager – Chateh

Infrastructure Services Manager

The Infrastructure Services Department of the Dene Tha’ First Nation is currently accepting applications to fill a vacant Services Manager position based out of the community of Chateh, Alberta. This full-time management (contract) position with benefits is aimed at enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals that are culturally sensitive and can demonstrate a strong personal work ethic, the ability to work in a team environment, a commitment to delivery of public services, and good quality building construction methods for the DTFN Instructure Services Department.

This is technical, supervisory and administrative work in service delivery within the Dene Tha’ First Nation’s three communities of Bushe River, Chateh and Meander River. As this is in a fast moving and challenging work environment, it entails taking a leadership role where experience with a standard of strong technical skills, and knowledge in the Housing Industry & Civil Works is critical to making the best use of limited resources to successfully run the housing and community infrastructure systems maintenance programs for the DTFN.

The Services Manager reports to the Director of Infrastructure Services and assists the Director in developing and implementing sound initiatives for short and long-term service delivery.

Duties Include:

  • Arranges and manages various obligations regarding services and suppliers
  • Prepares monthly reports, other technical and progress reports
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints specifications and standards
  • Coordinates preparation and development of the yearly budgets, work plans and monitors expenditures
  • Assigns and supervises work of foremen and subordinate staff
  • Studies production schedules and estimates time frames for project completion
  • Carries out a variety of administrative and technical projects as assigned
  • Interprets and enforces Band policies and safety regulations to workers
  • Attends various meetings as required

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a 2-year college/technical program, with 3 years related municipal type experience, 3 years’ supervision and equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of current building standards and regulations; occupational hazards and safety regulations; engineering plans and specifications
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate supervisors and staff; write semi-technical reports and correspondence; establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, Council, and other agencies/businesses
  • Must be computer literate

Other requirements: A valid Journeyman’s Ticket is an asset; must have own transportation and a valid Alberta Driver’s Licence and must provide a clear Criminal Record Check.

Remuneration dependent on qualifications and experience.
