 The Dene Tha’ Recreation Services has a position available to provide recreation services for Chateh. This is a full-time term position with benefits.

Position:

The Recreation Services Coordinator is responsible in planning and conducting recreation activities with groups within the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in the community assigned to, (Bushe River, Chateh or Meander River) and manage/implement all recreation activities.
  • Organize and promote activities such as sports, games, cultural camps, arts, craft, music, drumming, social recreation, hobbies, movie nights, taking into account the needs and interests of children, youth, adults and elders.
  • Collaborate within the 3 communities, with other First Nations staff, intra/inter-agencies and volunteers.
  • Assess the current recreation activities within the community and make recommendations.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Director of Recreation Services to supervise and monitor progress of activities.
  • Participate in networking, training, and workshop to enhance/improve knowledge, skills and attitude.
  • Facilitate activities, train athletes, coach sports, and travel with the team and attend cultural camps.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned by the DTFN Director of Recreation Services.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 and/or previous coaching experience.
  • Strong leadership and excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office, use of internet, email, etc.
  • Possess a valid Alberta Driver’s License and First Aid Certificate.
  • Willing and able to travel out of town and on overnights.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently and responsibly.
  • Having an Aboriginal Coaching Certificate is an advantage.
  • Understanding and Speaking the Dene Language is an asset.

The successful candidate must be willing to work irregular hours; after school, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must submit a current Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Clearance Check; and live in the area as travel is not provided.

Assisted Living (Adult Care) Worker – Meander River

The Dene Tha’ Social Development Program has a position available for an Assisted Living (Homecare) Worker in the community of Meander River. This is a full-time position with benefits.  Open to DTFN Members Only.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Performing light housekeeping tasks in Elders homes
  • Laundry and meal preparation
  • Transporting Elders for shopping, banking and medical appointments
  • Reporting Elders in need of medical attention to the Public Health Nurse
  • Completing monthly activity reports
  • Attending staff meetings and workshops

Qualifications:

  • Must have effective written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the needs of elderly and incapacitated clients
  • Ability to speak the Dene language is a definite asset
  • Must have safety certification in First Aid, WHIMIS and Food Safety

Addictions Counselor – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Family & Community Wellness Services is seeking an Addictions Counselor to fill an available position in the community of Chateh. The position is located out of the Health Centre. This a full time position with benefits.

Duties Include:

  • Counsel and assess the needs of clients and make appropriate arrangements for treatment
  • Provide continuing support services where needed
  • Maintain efficient working arrangements with resource services such as the Nursing Station, RCMP, School, Mental Health, FASD Soc., Child & Family Services, Treatment Centres, etc.
  • Help develop and present education programs designed to address assessed needs
  • Participate in “Interventions” and act as an advocate for members of the  community
  • Maintain highly confidential records and prepare routine and special reports for supervisor
  • Ability to be on-call, including after hours and weekends

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12, supplemented with post-secondary courses in the social work field and two years related experience
  • Or certification in addictions training, and workshops
  • First Aid/CPR a definite asset
  • Good communication, writing and interpersonal skills

Additional requirements:  Lead an addictions-free lifestyle; possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License; provide a Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare Clearance Check.

Daycare Supervisor – Bushe River

The Dene Tha’ First Nation has a Daycare Supervisor Position available immediately based out of the Rising Generations Daycare Centre in the community of Bushe River. This is a full time positon with benefits.

Position:
Responsible for all duties related to the efficient daily operation of the daycare centre, and provides supervision and training to staff; reports to the Economic Development Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide leadership in the development of programs to assist in the intellectual, physical and social aspects of the children’s development within the policies established by the Nation and the requirements of the Child Care Licensing Act.
  • Ensure a healthy and nurturing atmosphere
  • Maintain constant supervision at all times (Indoor and Outdoor)
  • Encourage open communication with parents
  • Must be available for any training requirements and meetings
  • Other duties as may be required by the Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Level 3 Early Childhood Education certificate (*Must provide a copy)
  • Valid First Aid / CPR certification (*Must provide a copy)
  • Must be dependable and reliable with strong communication skills

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Health Services has a position available for a Receptionist at the Nursing Station in Chateh. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Receive, direct and relay telephone messages and fax messages
  • Open, sort and date stamp all general correspondence
  • Direct the members and the general public to the appropriate staff member
  • Maintain the general filing system and file all correspondence
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of meetings, conferences and conference calls
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of office supplies
  • Respond to public inquiries
  • Provide word-processing and secretarial support
  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance of office equipment
  • Other general office duties as may be required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 10
  • Certificate in Office Administration or previous experience is an asset

Maintenance Person – N’Deh Corporation

You are a problem solver and a team player; reporting to the Property Manager you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of rental (commercial and residential) properties held by the Ndeh Limited Partnership.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify and repair all damages and general maintenance reported by tenants and Property Manager
  • Diagnose and repair minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry problems
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Drywall repairs
  • Painting, interior and exterior
  • Graffiti removal
  • Replace furnace filters
  • Repair/replace broken windows and doors
  • Repair and installation of window coverings
  • Ensure that the rental units are move-in ready
  • Maintain daily log of tasks
  • Complete and follow work orders
  • Follow and help maintain the preventative maintenance schedule
  • Any other maintenance duties as required

Requirements:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Must have carpentry and basic plumbing experience
  • 24/7 availability for emergencies
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have the necessary tools to complete all tasks (vehicle and tools)

Senior Operator For Natural Gas System – Chateh

Dene Tha’ Natural Gas Utility, Chateh, Alberta

  1. The Dene Tha’ Natural Gas Utility (DTNGU) provides operational oversight of natural gas and propane services to three separate communities located in Northwest Alberta – Bushe River, Meander River, and Chateh. Bushe River and Chateh use natural gas while Meander River is supplied with propane. Among the three communities, there are about 350 dwellings along with several larger community facilities such as: Administration Offices, Public Works, schools, health services, community buildings, commercial outlets, etc.
  2. Historically, one contract operator has supervised and maintained the gas systems for many years on behalf of DTNGU, however this role is currently vacant and DTNGU is willing to consider a person with a natural gas trades background to fill the role as an employee of the utility.

2.    Required Duties

DTNGU is seeking a qualified natural gas operator to manage, administer and operate the DTNGU. The following are typical duties, some of which could be minimized depending upon the qualifications of the individual:

  1. Administration – regular reporting to the DTFN Executive Director of Operations (EDO); general response to member or customer gas service needs and follow-up in solving member or customer needs. Supervision of DTNGU employees.
  2. Equipment – maintenance and repair of any DTNGU equipment. Currently operators use two light duty trucks and small tools.
  3. Meter Reading and Collections – carry out gas meter reading according to a repetitive cycle and coordinate submission of readings with the Federation of Alberta Gas Coops Ltd. RUBIS system. Responsible to monitor all customer payments and notifications for turn-off and turn-on of service due to lack of payment.
  4. Member and Customer Service – respond to service needs on a 24 hour basis. Conduct or oversee minor repairs to heating systems within the scope of the Operator’s certification. All other repairs are conducted by qualified sub-contractors arranged for and supervised by the Operator.
  5. System Maintenance – to respond to and arrange for repair, upgrade, extensions or individual building service connections either by the Operator or by qualified sub-contractors or supplier of natural gas or propane gas. Location of underground utilities is to be arranged with and verified by Alberta OneCall service. To carry out such maintenance in accordance with best practices and the Federation of Alberta Gas Coops Ltd Operations and Maintenance Manual.
  6. Safe Work Practices – possess such safety and training certificates related to the designated gas utility operation (e.g. WHIMIS, first aid, confined entry, etc.) and comply with all provisions of the Worker’s Compensation Act, the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations. Additionally, possess the minimum training certificates provided by the Federation of Alberta Gas Coops Ltd. and be committed to enrolling in and completing annual gas operator training programs.

Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the DTFN salary grid and benefits plan.

Caseworker – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Got’sats’eni / Income Security Program is currently recruiting for a Caseworker. The position is located out of the Social Development Office in Chateh. This is a full time permanent position with benefits.

Duties Include:

  • Determine eligibility for assistance based on program policies
  • Encourage and assist clients to access training and employment opportunities
  • Refer and assist clients to access other services provided by other agencies
  • Monthly program and annual reports

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education with experience working in an office setting
  • Must be computer literate and have experience with computer software programs
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be very organized
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle stressful situations
  • Must be capable of working independently and in a group setting
