First Responders – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Health Program has positions available immediately for First Responders based out of the Chateh Health Centre. These are full-time positions.

Duties Include: 

  • Respond to all emergency calls that come into the Health Centre
  • Must be quick to assess and decide the proper course of action in regard to emergencies within the community
  • Assess and decide whether a patient needs to be transported by ambulance or taxi regarding emergency walk-ins
  • Must report all criminal situations to the local RCMP before or during the assessment of the patient
  • Stay on job site throughout the entire work shift to ensure accessibility of emergency services

Job Requirements:

  • Attend a training program
  • Must successfully complete and pass the hands-on training with the Instructor to qualify
  • Have excellent communication and written skills
  • Must be dependable and/or reliable
  • Be flexible regarding shift work
  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (*Learner’s License/GDL is not acceptable)
  • Ability to speak the Dene language is considered an asset

Family & Community Wellness Services Coordinator

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Health Program has a full-time position available immediately for an Addiction Coordinator for the Family & Community Wellness Services (FCWS) based out of the Health Centre in Chateh. This is a two-year contract position with benefits.

This position is responsible for coordinating the implementation of activities aimed at prevention to reduce the incidence of alcohol and drug abuse by members within the Nation’s three communities.

Duties Include:                

  • Counsel and assess the needs of clients and make appropriate arrangements for treatment
  • Maintain an efficient working arrangement with Health; school; mental health – crisis counselors, Elders, Traditional Teachers; and child & family services
  • Engage Elders to help with Dene Tha’ cultural teachings and healing
  • Prepare presentations, brochures, reports and other related materials
  • Organize and plan cultural activities for clients dealing with addiction
  • Assist clients to continue with recovery plan after treatment by providing them with life skills, education and intervention
  • Case management and highly confidential record keeping practice
  • Develop an annual work plan and budget
  • Prepare and monitor annual budget; quarterly financial reports

Qualifications:                

  • Post-Secondary Education with (CACC) Certification or equivalent in social work, psychology, sociology and/or addictions, preferably in the counseling service area or any combination of training and work experience which provides required knowledge, ability and skills; have a current certificate in the field of addiction treatment
  • Organization/administrative management, planning, organizing human resources, analytical and communication, and some counseling knowledge and skills required
  • Demonstrate positive role model for staff, clients and community at large
  • Must be computer literate and have experience with computer software programs
  • First Aid/CPR a definite asset; ability to speak the Dene Tha’ language also considered an asset

Additional requirements:  Lead an addiction-free lifestyle; hold a valid Alberta Driver’s License and have own transportation; provide a clear Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare Clearance. Ability to be on call; including after hours and weekends

Accounts Payable Clerk – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Administration has a position available for an Accounts Payable Clerk based out of the Chateh Admin. Office. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Position:
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for preparing and processing invoices and processing accounts payable cheques for distribution within the established finance policy.
This position is accountable for maintaining and updating accounts payable related records for the DTFN finance department. Provides the accurate and timely preparation of data input into the DTFN financial information system, and ensures reports are prepared within deadlines. The Accounts Payable Clerk ensures efficient and productive operations in a concise and confidential manner in support of the Finance Department’s goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Office Administration Diploma or Experience in Finance, Accounting, or Payroll Administration
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Must be computer literate with knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Accpac accounting program knowledge is essential
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take directions from supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Education.
  • A minimum three (3) years related experience which includes leading Aboriginal services, program and/or policy development, and/or education and community development.
  • Proven experience in alternate program development.
  • In depth understanding of Aboriginal cultures, histories, protocols, issues, demographics and social structures, especially within Alberta.
  • Excellent planning, administrative, organizational, project management and budget management skills.
  • Ability to plan strategically, initiate action and achieve desired outcomes for multiple initiatives in both political as well as culturally sensitive environments.
  • Ability to work as an integral team member and provide leadership to teams and working committees, achieving goals using consultative and collegial processes.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive and complex information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of aboriginal education policies and procedures as set out by Federal and Provincial governments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with First Nations people in Northern Alberta.
  • Experience teaching First Nations students.
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of First Nations culture and traditions.

Responsibilties: Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations.

Tasks will include:

  • Assigning Responsibilities as needed.
  • Evaluate and signing off teachers performance evaluation.
  • Establishing a budget.
  • Setting the Stage (which includes reviewing the vision, mission and goals of the Dene Tha’ First Nation Education Authority (DTFN), and developing a long range plan for increasing literacy, numeracy and graduation rates (high school and post-secondary).
  • Renegotiation of provincial tuition agreements and forging partnerships with NAIT, Northern Lakes College, Fort Vermillion School Division and other post-secondary institutions.
  • Developing a local school board.
  • Travel required.

Must have a valid Alberta Driver’s License and reliable transportation. Must provide a clear criminal record check and child welfare clearance.

Outreach Worker – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Family & Community Wellness Services Mental Health Program is seeking a Domestic Violence Outreach Worker to fill an available position in the community of Chateh. The position is located out of the Health Centre. This is a full time one year term position with benefits.

Duties Include:                

  • Counsel and assess the needs of clients and make appropriate arrangements for support
  • Provide continuing support services where needed
  • Maintain efficient working arrangements with resource services (Nursing Station, RCMP, School, etc.); as well as outside agencies
  • Develop and promote programs designed to address the areas of need
  • Maintain highly confidential records and prepare routine reports for supervisor
  • Ability to be on-call including after hours and weekends

Qualifications:                

  • Post-Secondary Education in the field of Health Services or Social Work with a minimum of two years related work experience
  • Be very organized with good communication, writing and interpersonal skills
  • Must be computer literate and have experience with computer software programs
  • Ability to have empathy and understanding of why domestic violence takes place
  • First Aid/CPR a definite asset
  • Ability to speak the Dene language also considered an asset

The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) Administration Department is inviting applications from experienced Senior Managers for the position of Executive Director of Operations. The position is based out of the Administration office in Bushe River, Alberta. This (2-year contract) position is full time and offers a competitive benefits package.

Position Summary

The Dene Tha’ First Nation delivers services and programs to three fully accessible communities-Bushe River, Chateh (formerly known as Assumption), and Meander River. The First Nation is involved in many diverse projects and commercial ventures and is looking for a Senior Executive to take charge of the Band’s administration and implement the decisions of the Nation’s elected government.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Reporting directly to the Chief and Council, the Executive Director of Operations deals with senior officials of the Federal and Provincial Governments as well as industry leaders. This position oversees a complex organization, which includes a wide variety of professionals, technicians, and trades people and such major programs as Social Services, Education, Public Works, and Economic Development.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have several years of experience managing financial and human resources and preferably a university degree although candidates with extensive experience managing at a senior level will also be given serious consideration. Excellent communication skills are a definite requirement and candidates who speak Dene will be given preference. Candidates must be bondable.

The successful candidate must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation, and willingness to travel. Must also provide a clear criminal record check, lead and maintain an addiction free life style. Remuneration dependent on qualification and experience.

Grocery and Gas Bar Manager
Store is located in Meander River, Alberta

Grocery Managers are responsible for managing department inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor, and other operational processes to company standards. They must follow the Company sales and production planning standards and will ensure that the department achieves the standards of performance as outlines in the work plan. They will plan, order, and process grocery products per work plan and standards to maximize sales and gross profit.

Responsibilities:
