Assisted Living (Adult Care) Worker – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ Social Development program has a position available for an Assisted Living (Homemaker) Worker in the community of Chateh. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Performing light housekeeping tasks in Elders homes
  • Laundry and meal preparation
  • Transporting Elders for shopping, banking, and medical appointments
  • Reporting Elders in need of medical attention to the Public Health Nurse
  • Completing monthly activity reports
  • Attending staff meetings and workshops

Qualifications:

  • Must have effective written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the needs of elderly and incapacitated clients
  • Ability to speak the Dene language is a definite asset
    • Must have safety certification in First Aid.

The successful candidate must submit a current criminal record check; have reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.

Dene Tha’ Housing Department – 2 Foreman (One each for Bushe River, One for Meader River)

The Dene Tha’ Housing Department is currently offering the following for the upcoming New/Renovation Projects:

Seasonal Positions:

  • 2 FOREMEN (ONE EACH FOR BUSHE RIVER, AND MEANDER RIVER)

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Responsible for planning, coordinating and daily supervision of activities of the Department’s building projects
  • Oversees and participates in the activities of a group of skilled and unskilled tradesmen, labourers, and equipment operators engaged in all construction projects
  • Ensures employees are working in a safe environment and following Occupational Health and Safety Standards
  • Able to Set Up Equipment, review and Interpret Blue Prints and Specifications, have Knowledge of Building Materials & Its Applications; have Building Knowledge and Maintain Best Practice in Construction and Building Standards

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous Residential/Housing Construction Experience
  • Have Commitment and Perseverance, Excellent Communication (Oral and Written) Skills, and Knowledge of Conflict Resolution
  • Good Physical Health and Willingness to Work with Construction Crews
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License, Own Transportation/Vehicle and General Construction Tools and Equipment

Receptionist Four Chiefs Complex – Bushe River

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Administration Department is currently offering casual employment opportunities to fill in for the Receptionist at the Four Chiefs Complex in Bushe River when required.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Receive, direct and relay telephone messages and fax messages
  • Open, sort and date stamp all general correspondence
  • Direct the members and the general public to the appropriate staff member
  • Maintain the general filing system and file all correspondence
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of meetings, conferences and conference calls
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of office supplies
  • Respond to public inquiries
  • Provide word-processing and secretarial support
  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance of office equipment
  • Other general office duties as may be required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • Certificate in Office Administration or previous experience is an asset
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be computer literate
  • Must be dependable and reliable
  • Ability to speak the Dene language fluently is an asset

Summer Student Program 2017

SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAM 2017 EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUMMER 2017 ELIGIBLE FOR AGES: 15 – 30 YEARS OLD STUDENTS & YOUTHS

There will be various positions available during the summer months for employment for students and youths (must be 15 years old by Sept 1, 2017) and Post-Secondary Students within Dene Tha’ First Nation Communities.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

  • Community Enhancement Projects and Summer Work Experience Program – various positions within the first nation programs/departments. Placements will be done based on your application assessment. Open to students that are in school.
  • Career/Trades/Projects for Skills Link & Mentored Work Positions – various positions within the first nation programs/departments and local businesses/company within the surrounding areas. Placements will be done based on your application assessment with a program/department, or business/company that offers career goals or trades skills. Open to youths that have been out of school or planning to return to school.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Dedicated, responsible and enthusiastic with high energy.
  • Must have a Social Insurance Number
  • Be on time and prepared to work every day, be safe at work and practice safety.
  • Able to problem solve effectively
  • Excellent people skills and service oriented attitude.
  • Willing to do different jobs even those that are not your favourites, as assigned by your Supervisor.
  • Strong Communication and teamwork abilities (participation and support)

Summer Employment Program 2017

Custodian – Meander River Complex

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Operations and Maintenance Department has a full time position available for a  Custodian based out of the Complex in Meander River.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Sweep and mop floors; vacuum rugs and carpets; dust furniture and woodwork; clean and disinfect washrooms; empty waste baskets
  • Maintain rugs and carpets by vacuuming and shampooing
  • Maintain floors by stripping, washing, waxing and polishing
  • Wash walls and ceilings, windows and blinds as per schedule
  • Ensure cleaning material and washroom supplies are in stock
  • Ensure security of building and contents
  • Report minor repairs and maintenance to the O & M manager

Qualifications:

  • Previous training and/or experience in this area considered an asset
  • Knowledge of materials and supplies used in commercial cleaning
  • Ability to operate and maintain janitorial equipment
  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting, moving furniture and equipment
  • First Aid and WHMIS Certification

Recreation Coordinator – Meander River

The Dene Tha’ Recreation Services has a position available to provide recreation services for Meander River. This is a full-time term position with benefits.

Position:
The Recreation Services Coordinator is responsible in planning and conducting recreation activities with groups within the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in the community assigned to, (Bushe River, Chateh or Meander River) and manage/implement all recreation activities.
  • Organize and promote activities such as sports, games, cultural camps, arts, craft, music, drumming, social recreation, hobbies, movie nights, taking into account the needs and interests of children, youth, adults and elders.
  • Collaborate within the 3 communities, with other First Nations staff, intra/inter-agencies and volunteers.
  • Assess the current recreation activities within the community and make recommendations.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Director of Recreation Services to supervise and monitor progress of activities.
  • Participate in networking, training, and workshop to enhance/improve knowledge, skills and attitude.
  • Facilitate activities, train athletes, coach sports, and travel with the team and attend cultural camps.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned by the DTFN Director of Recreation Services.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 and/or previous coaching experience.
  • Strong leadership and excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office, use of internet, email, etc.
  • Possess a valid Alberta Driver’s License and First Aid Certificate.
  • Willing and able to travel out of town and on overnights.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently and responsibly.
  • Having an Aboriginal Coaching Certificate is an advantage.
  • Understanding and Speaking the Dene Language is an asset.

The successful candidate must be willing to work irregular hours; after school, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must submit a current Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Clearance Check; and live in the area as travel is not provided.

Community Beautification Program – Bushe River, Meander River

There are ten (10) positions available for employment; five (5) will be in Meander River and five (5) will be in Bushe River for Dene Tha’ First Nation Members that are on Social Assistance or eligible for Social Assistance. The employment will be for a period of sixteen (16) weeks commencing June 5 to September 22, 2017 for Meander River and Bushe River in the Dene Tha’ Economic Development Program (Cost-shared project in conjunction with Dene Tha’ Social Development Dept).

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

  • One (1) Supervisor with own truck for Meander River
  • One (1) Supervisor with own truck for Bushe River
  • Four (4) Labourers for Meander River Crew
  • Four (4) Labourers for Bushe River Crew

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be a Social Assistance client or eligible Social Assistance client
  • Dedicated, responsible and enthusiastic with high energy
  • Driver’s license is an asset
  • Candidates should be prepared for physical labour of lifting and moving heavy objects
  • Experience and ability to work in an outdoor setting.
  • Be physically fit!!!
  • Have proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Be able to complete tasks within tight timelines (complete weekly projects in a timely fashion)

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Organizing and supervising student work crews
  • Delegating tasks, monitoring and maintaining accurate records
  • Ensuring safety practices and other related tasks

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or GED equivalency
  • Possess valid safety tickets: First Aid, CPR
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Must be reliable and dependable
  • Knowledge of the Dene language is an asset
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT)
