The Dene Tha’ First Nation Admin. Dept. has a full-time position available for a Human Resources Manager, based out of the Band/Administration Office in Chateh. This is a two-year contract position with benefits.
This position is responsible for the administrative direction of all activities of administration personnel. Key areas of responsibility will include the full cycle of recruitment and hiring, policy and procedure development, employee relations, and performance management. The Human Resources Manager should be current with all applicable laws and legislation. This position also administers personnel issues with respect to recruitment, salaries, staff training and safety. This position reports to the Director of Corporate Services and acts as a Human Resource Advisor to the EDO, DTFN management, and administration personnel. This position recognizes employee contributions to the DTFN and identifies human resource opportunities.

Duties Include:                 

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures, gaining amendments and approvals as required, including the revision of job descriptions when appropriate
  • Administers and adheres to current salary plans for existing and new employees, maintains the existing pay and classification plan; prepares and authorizes payroll changes to reflect new appointments, promotions, and increments
  • Provide HR support and guidance to all managers, directors, and employees
  • Maintains close liaison with senior managers and EDO to anticipate and respond to personnel issues, making appropriate recommendations and decisions where warranted
  • Ensures Disciplinary Process is followed appropriately; Manage the corrective action process with the appropriate Manager / Supervisor to ensure reliable analysis, documentation, and disciplinary actions
  • Assist in the completion and tracing of all employee performance reviews and in the setting of performance improvement standards
  • Develops annual corporate wide training and continuing education plan for employees, in conjunction with program managers and employees
  • Create and maintain training and certification records for all employees, keep employees’ database and records in hard and soft copies
  • Manage all terminations accordingly
  • Contribute to the organization by building and maintaining positive relationships, helps to encourage teamwork, shares and rewards outstanding contributions for individual and group efforts
  • Accountable for accomplishing strategic human resources objectives and contributing to DTFN initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:                  

  • Minimum Grade 12 education combined with a background in Human Resources and /or employee relations; diploma or degree related to Human Resources and Administration fields. CHRP designation is an asset
  • Two or more years of relevant experience, preferably in an HR environment
  • Good understanding of employee relations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet applications
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, and client service orientation skills
  • Ability to work with all members and staff at all levels within the organization, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with members and respond courteously to all inquires and complaints
  • Completion of FOIP and PIPA training

Other requirements:  The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and have own transportation, and must provide a clear Criminal Record check.

Family & Community Wellness Services – Addiction Coordinator – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation has a full-time position available immediately for an Addiction Coordinator for the Health Dept. This position is based out of the Health Centre in Chateh. This is a two-year contract position with benefits.

This position is responsible for coordinating the implementation of activities aimed at prevention to reduce the incidence of alcohol and drug abuse by members within the Nation’s three communities.

Duties Include:               

  • Counsel and assess the needs of clients and make appropriate arrangements for treatment
  • Maintain an efficient working arrangement with Health; school; mental health – crisis counselors, Elders, Traditional Teachers; and child & family services
  • Engage Elders to help with Dene Tha’ cultural teachings and healing
  • Prepare presentations, brochures, reports and other related materials
  • Organize and plan cultural activities for clients dealing with addiction
  • Assist clients to continue with recovery plan after treatment by providing them with life skills, education and intervention
  • Case management and highly confidential record keeping practice
  • Develop an annual work plan and budget
  • Prepare and monitor annual budget; quarterly financial reports

Qualifications:               

  • Post-Secondary Education with (CACC) Certification or equivalent in social work, psychology, sociology and/or addictions, preferably in the counseling service area or any combination of training and work experience which provides required knowledge, ability and skills; have a current certificate in the field of addiction treatment
  • Organization/administrative management, planning, organizing human resources, analytical and communication, and some counseling knowledge and skills required
  • Demonstrate positive role model for staff, clients and community at large
  • Must be computer literate and have experience with computer software programs
  • First Aid/CPR a definite asset; ability to speak Dene language is also considered an asset

Other requirements:      Must have own transportation and a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License; provide a clear Criminal Record check and a Child Welfare Clearance check. Ability to be on call; including after hours and weekends, as needed.

Addictions Worker (Temporary) – Chateh

ADDICTIONS WORKER (TEMPORARY) – CHATEH

The Dene Tha’ First Nation is currently accepting applications to fill the position of an Addiction Worker for the Health Department. This position would support the community of Chateh. This is a full-time Temporary position.

Duties Include:

  • Facilitate information sessions and community consultations in order to identify needs and solutions surrounding addiction and mental health
  • Facilitate, coordinate and design a community action plan in partnership with community members and local stakeholders with a view of meeting the identified addition and mental health needs of the community
  • Identify and support individuals who are either in a high-risk situation or are expressing early signs and symptoms of addiction use behavior
  • Responsible for implementing specialized treatment and recovery programs and plans for individuals with addiction problems, with the focus on youths and high-risk individuals
  • Provide support to leaders and families in the communities coping with the stress of addiction in the family
  • Offer a variety of care options that use cultural values and beliefs, and emphasizes personal growth
  • Engage Elders when required to help with cultural teachings and healing
  • Explore leveraging opportunities with other stakeholders in order to help fund initiatives and to increase availability of resources
  • Create linkages and maintain a network of community, regional, and provincial services and programs
  • Prepare presentations, brochures, reports and any other related material

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • Three to five years of experience in the health field
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and composure to work within a specific timeframe, at times in a fast-paced climate
  • Ability to work with the public and staff at all levels within the organization, in a multiple task environment
  • Read, understand and comply with the DTFN safety policy, safe work practices, procedures and rules
  • Hands-on application and use of computer systems and applications
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Speak and understand Dene language

FINANCE SPECIALIST

  • Perform financial and accounting related activities such as Tracking Invoices, Purchase Orders, and Cheque Requisition Forms
  • Prepare finance record entries and account reconciliation reports
  • Analyze financial documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare financial and accounting reports following finance policy
  • Generate financial transaction records for collections, invoices, payments, expenses, and revenues for future references
  • Review all accounting procedures and recommend improvements
  • Address finance issues and inquiries on time

  • Manage account payables and receivables activities

Qualifications:

  • Completion of grade 12, supplemented by college courses for senior and executive secretarial work
  • Experience in Finance positions, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of business English Language Communication Mechanics; modern office methods, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures of First Nation programs and operations
  • Ability to plan, organize and meet target deadlines
  • Excellent typing, minute taking, transcribing, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft computer programs
  • Must be dependable and reliable
  • The ability to speak Dene, teach traditional dancing, and other related cultural activities are additional assets.

Water Treatment Plant Operator – Meander River and Chateh

The DTFN Infrastructure Services/Operations & Maintenance department (OMD) has a full-time position available for a Water Treatment Plant Operator based out of Meander River and Chateh

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • The main responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Carry out the daily operation (regulatory monitoring and reporting process adjustments, chemical transferring and maintenance) of the facilities
  • Complete and compile data of daily inspections, monitoring, and sampling as required
  • Report operational problems to the supervisor

N’deh Limited Partnership – Maintenance Person

You are a problem solver and a team player; reporting to the Property Manager you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of rental (commercial and residential) properties held by the Ndeh Limited Partnership. All properties are located in High Level and Meander River, Alberta.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify and repair all damages and general maintenance reported by tenants and Property Manager
  • Diagnose and repair minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry problems

Aboriginal Diabetes Aide – Chateh

ABORIGINAL DIABETES AIDE

The DTFN Health Program has an Aboriginal Diabetes Aide position available, based out of the Health Centre in Chateh. This is full-time position with benefits.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent, and Aboriginal Diabetes Aide Certification
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of medical terminology with the ability to communicate with other health professionals
  • Organizational ability and composure to work within specific timeframes
  • Ability to work with the staff at all levels within the organization with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment
  • Hands on application and use of computer systems and applications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for increasing the knowledge of diabetes with other health care professionals, and providers in the community who are involved with the care of people with diabetes; ensuring continuity and quality of diabetes care for the clients.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Applying cultural standards and Indigenous knowledge in the performance of the duties while working with Indigenous individuals, families, communities and Elders
  • Increase awareness in the communities of diabetes, risk factors, complications, and ways to prevent diabetes
  • Educate about early detection and screening for complications of diabetes throughout the communities
  • Increase community member capacity in prevention and self-management of diabetes
  • Work with other health care providers to support capacity building activities geared towards supportive and effective diabetes care

Ability to speak the Dene language is a definite asset. The successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check and a child welfare clearance check. Must possess a Class 5 Driver’s License and have reliable transportation.
