Garbage Truck Driver – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Operations and Maintenance Dept. (OMD) requires a full-time Garbage Truck Driver for the community of Chateh. Rate negotiable based on experience. Hours 8-5 PM. Must live in area, travel is not provided. Driver reports to the Chateh OMD Foreman.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • The safe removal, transportation and disposal of garbage and debris
  • Responsible for providing weekly operational records, performing minor maintenance, and servicing, maintaining interior and exterior appearance of the unit
  • Staying current with transportation laws and regulations

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of Class 3 driving experience (newly licensed drivers welcome to apply)
  • Hold a valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s Licence (provide proof with resume)
  • Must pass a physical exam
  • Hold valid safety certificates
  • Must be reliable and dependable

The successful candidate must provide a clean driver abstract along with a criminal record check.

Full-Time / Part-Time Custodian – Chateh

The DTFN Infrastructure Services/Operations & Maintenance department (OMD) has positions available for one full-time and one part-time custodian based out of the Administration Office in Chateh.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Sweep and mop floors; vacuum rugs and carpets; dust furniture and woodwork; clean and disinfect washrooms; empty waste baskets
  • Maintain rugs and carpets by vacuuming and shampooing
  • Maintain floors by stripping, washing, waxing, and polishing
  • Wash walls and ceilings, windows, and blinds as per schedule
  • Ensure cleaning material and washroom supplies are in stock
  • Ensure security of building and contents
  • Report minor repairs and maintenance to the O & M manager

Qualifications:

  • Previous training and/or experience in this area considered an asset
  • Knowledge of materials and supplies used in commercial cleaning
  • Ability to operate and maintain janitorial equipment
  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting, moving furniture and equipment
  • First Aid and WHMIS Certification

Human Resources Manager – Chateh

Human Resources Manager

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Admin. Dept. has a full-time position available for a Human Resources Manager, based out of the Band/Administration Office in Chateh. This is a two-year contract position with benefits.

This position is responsible for the administrative direction of all activities of administration personnel. Key areas of responsibility will include the full cycle of recruitment and hiring, policy and procedure development, employee relations, and performance management. The Human Resources Manager should be current with all applicable laws and legislation. This position also administers personnel issues with respect to recruitment, salaries, staff training and safety. This position reports to the Director of Corporate Services and acts as a Human Resource Advisor to the EDO, DTFN management, and administration personnel. This position recognizes employee contributions to the DTFN and identifies human resource opportunities.

Duties Include:                   

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures, gaining amendments and approvals as required, including the revision of job descriptions when appropriate
  • Administers and adheres to current salary plans for existing and new employees, maintains the existing pay and classification plan; prepares and authorizes payroll changes to reflect new appointments, promotions, and increments
  • Provide HR support and guidance to all managers, directors, and employees
  • Maintains close liaison with senior managers and EDO to anticipate and respond to personnel issues, making appropriate recommendations and decisions where warranted
  • Ensures Disciplinary Process is followed appropriately; Manage the corrective action process with the appropriate Manager / Supervisor to ensure reliable analysis, documentation, and disciplinary actions
  • Assist in the completion and tracing of all employee performance reviews and in the setting of performance improvement standards
  • Develops annual corporate wide training and continuing education plan for employees, in conjunction with program managers and employees
  • Create and maintain training and certification records for all employees, keep employees’ database and records in hard and soft copies
  • Manage all terminations accordingly
  • Contribute to the organization by building and maintaining positive relationships, helps to encourage teamwork, shares and rewards outstanding contributions for individual and group efforts
  • Accountable for accomplishing strategic human resources objectives and contributing to DTFN initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:                    

  • Minimum Grade 12 education combined with a background in Human Resources and /or employee relations; diploma or degree related to Human Resources and Administration fields. CHRP designation is an asset
  • Two or more years of relevant experience, preferably in an HR environment
  • Good understanding of employee relations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet applications
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, and client service orientation skills
  • Ability to work with all members and staff at all levels within the organization, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with members and respond courteously to all inquires and complaints
  • Completion of FOIP and PIPA training

Other requirements:

The Dene Tha First Nation Administration has a position available immediately for a Courier Driver whose main posting is within the community of Chateh. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Duties:

  • Provide departments with information on travel schedule
  • Perform delivery services within the three communities of Chateh, Bushe River and Meander River; such as mail service, delivery and pickup of supplies, and other duties as directed

Job Requirements:

  • Must have extensive driving experience
  • Hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Driver’s Licence
  • Must have good physical health and vision
  • Must be capable of maintaining a high level of concentration
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills

Addiction Worker – Chateh

Dene Tha’ First Nation is currently accepting applications to fill two positions of an Addiction Worker for the Health Department. This position would support the community of Chateh. This is a full-time permanent position with benefits.

Duties Include:

  • Facilitate information sessions and community consultations in order to identify needs and solutions surrounding addiction and mental health.
  • Facilitate, coordinate and design a community action plan in partnership with community members and local stakeholders with a view of meeting the identified addiction and mental health needs of the community.
  • Identify and support individuals who are either in a high-risk situation or are expressing early signs and symptoms of addiction use behaviour.
  • Responsible for implementing specialized treatment and recovery programs and plans for individuals with an addiction problems. Target youths and high-risk individuals.
  • Provide support to leaders and families in the communities coping with the stress addiction in the family.
  • Offer a variety of care options that use cultural values and beliefs and emphasizes on personal growth.
  • Engage Elders when required to help with cultural teachings and healing.
  • Explore leveraging opportunities with other stakeholders in order to help fund initiatives and to increase availability of resources.
  • Create linkages and maintain a network of community, regional, and provincial services and programs.
  • Prepare presentations, brochures, reports and any other related material.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12.
  • Three to five years of experience in the health field.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and composure to work within a specific timeframe, in a fast-paced climate at times.
  • Ability to work with the public and staff at all levels within the organization with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment.
  • Read, understand and comply with DTFN safety policy, safe work practices, procedures and rules.
  • Hands-on application and use of computer systems and applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Speak and understand Dene language.

Executive Director of Operations

The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) Administration Department is inviting applications from experienced Senior Managers for the position of Executive Director of Operations. This (2-year contract) position is full-time and offers a competitive benefits package.

Position Summary

The Dene Tha’ First Nation delivers services and programs to three fully accessible communities-Bushe River, Chateh (formerly known as Assumption), and Meander River. The First Nation is involved in many diverse projects and commercial ventures and is looking for a Senior Executive to take charge of the Band’s administration and implement the decisions of the Nation’s elected government.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Reporting directly to the Chief and Council, the Executive Director of Operations deals with senior officials of the Federal and Provincial Governments as well as industry leaders. This position oversees a complex organization, which includes a wide variety of professionals, technicians, and trades people and such major programs as Social Services, Education, Public Works, and Economic Development.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have several years of experience managing financial and human resources and preferably a university degree although candidates with extensive experience managing at a senior level will also be given serious consideration. Excellent communication skills are a definite requirement and candidates who speak Dene will be given preference. Candidates must be bondable.
The successful candidate must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation, and willingness to travel. Must also provide a clear criminal record check.

Executive House Suites Hotel & Conference Centre is seeking to hire a Head Chef.

The Head Chef will be responsible for direction of the food preparation process, construction of menus with new and existing culinary creations, and will be involved in staffing the kitchen, forecasting supply needs, and estimating costs. The Head Chef will be responsible for ensuring the restaurant meets regulations and safety guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Control and direct the food preparation process and any other related activities
  • Construct menus with new or existing culinary creations ensuring the variety and quality of the servings, ensure food meets quality standards
  • Approve and “polish” dishes before they reach the customer
  • Create new recipes, prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets, weddings, etc.
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory
  • Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets and specialty functions
  • Plan orders of equipment or ingredients according to identified shortages

  • Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management

Communications Coordinator – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Admin. Dept. has a full-time position available for a Communications Coordinator, based out of the Band/Administration Office in Chateh. This is a two-year contract position with benefits.
The Communications Coordinator designs and reviews promotional and marketing materials, or other projects as assigned. The Communications Coordinator oversees social media presence and serves as a liaison to media outlets. The Communications Coordinator performs a variety of other specialized and administrative functions to increase the company’s visibility through the development and distribution of information and materials, participates in events, and participates in functions of community engagement.

Duties Include:               

  • Ensures all promotional materials are current and available
  • Coordinates special events, trade show and public appearances as directed
  • Ensures correct and timely printing of stationary needs
  • Assist with the creation of the internal newsletter
  • Ensure archival material is organized and up to date
  • Write and/or edit promotional material, press release and PSA’s as directed
  • Update website on a weekly basis; and other duties and committee work as assigned
  • Write a variety of different content to support communications and marketing efforts, including newsletters, website copy, and brochures and press releases
  • Assist communications team in developing and implementing a communications strategy designed to further company objectives
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies
