NETWORK TECHNICIAN

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Administration has a position available immediately for a Network (Computer) Technician. This is a full-time position with benefits. Extensive travel will be required between the communities of Bushe River, Chateh and Meander River.

 

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Corporate Services, the Network Technician is responsible for the operation, upkeep and maintenance of all computers, computer networks, Intranet and Internet sites, office equipment and other related technology. With the guidance of the Director, the Network Technician shall coordinate with other department heads to ensure solutions to technology requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Ensures the regular backup of files on the network systems and maintaining reliability of such systems
  • Ensures all equipment (computer, printers, photocopiers, telephones, cell phones) is maintained in good working condition as well as coordinating any repairs of such equipment as required
  • Purchases electronic equipment as required
  • Ensures adequate inventory of consumable items related to technology
  • Undertakes technical troubleshooting and coordinates outside technical services when required
  • Performs website maintenance and development
  • Ensures all systems are up to date with necessary virus software and patches as well as software patches as required
  • Recommends and implements new technology that will be beneficial to the organization
  • Maintains a level of knowledge and expertise that is current with the changing technology, best practices and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Director

Qualifications:

  • A university degree specializing in Information Technology; or an Information Technology diploma from a recognized technical institute; or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of information technology experience
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrate a high proficiency and aptitude in computer skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency and reliability in planning, organizing and carrying out multi-task projects
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability work with the public and staff at all levels within the organization with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Receive, direct and relay telephone messages and fax messages
  • Open, sort and date stamp all general correspondence
  • Direct the members and the public to the appropriate staff member
  • Maintain the general filing system and file all correspondence
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of meetings, conferences, and conference calls
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of office supplies
  • Respond to public inquiries
  • Provide word-processing and secretarial support
  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance of office equipment
  • Other general office duties as may be required

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • Certificate in Office Administration or previous experience is an asset
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be computer literate

GAS UTILITY MANAGER

 

 

The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) is inviting applications from experienced members for the position of Gas Utility Manager. This position is a 2-year full-time contract position that offers a competitive benefits package.

 

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations, the Gas Utility Manager shall be responsible for operational oversight of natural gas and propane services to three separate communities – Bushe River, Meander River, and Chateh.

 

Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Regular reporting to the DTFN Executive Director of Operations (EDO); general response to member or customer gas service needs and follow-up in solving member or customer needs. Supervision of DTNGU employees.
  • Leading and coordinating the safe, efficient construction, maintenance and operation of the Nation’s gas transmission and distribution systems.
  • Performing inspections of activities to ensure adherence to Nation standards, internal policies, procedures, and external regulations.
  • Preparing for and responding to gas related emergencies.
  • Support and carry out gas meter reading according to a repetitive cycle and coordinate submission of readings with the Federation of Alberta Gas Coops Ltd. RUBIS system.
  • Monitor all customer payments and notifications for turn-off and turn-on of service due to lack of payment.
  • Oversee and direct 24-hour emergency response services;
    • Conduct or oversee minor repairs to heating systems within the scope of the Operator’s certification,
    • All other repairs are conducted by qualified sub-contractors arranged for and supervised by the Operator.
  • Respond to and arrange for line repairs, upgrades, extensions, and individual building service connections;
    • Either by the Operator or by qualified sub-contractors or supplier of natural gas or propane gas,
    • Location of underground utilities is to be arranged with and verified by Alberta OneCall service,
    • To carry out such maintenance in accordance with best practices and the Federation of Alberta Gas Coops Ltd Operations and Maintenance Manual.
  • Possess required safety and training certificates related to the designated gas utility operation (e.g. WHIMIS, first aid, confined entry, etc.) and comply with all provisions of the Worker’s Compensation Act, the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations. Additionally, possess the minimum training certificates provided by the Federation of Alberta Gas Coops Ltd. and be committed to enrolling in and completing annual gas operator training programs.

 

Required Competencies:

  • Education related to the construction, maintenance and/or operation of the Nation’s gas transmission and distribution systems.
  • Technical or Trade programs in a related field would be an asset.
  • 2-5 years of Management experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe work habits and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Able to take initiative, work independently and with others.
  • Excellent leadership skills and team-building ability.
  • Highly developed supervisory, risk and crisis management skills.
  • Possesses an ability to write and produce quality reports in a timely manner.
  • Proficient computer literacy.
  • Any related education and training will be considered an asset.

 

The successful candidate must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation, and willingness to travel. Must also provide a clear criminal record check.

FIELD TECHNICIAN – CHATEH

The Dene Tha’ First Nation is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Field Technician for the Lands Dept. based out of the Chateh Admin. Office. This is a full-time permanent position with benefits.

 

Duties Include:

  • Conduct, supervise and participate in field surveys and field measurements following acceptable operational procedures. Provides technical advice to DTFN
  • Implement, supervise, and perform technical functions in natural resource development operations involving site preparation, construction, and monitoring
  • Monitor activities of resource companies and contractors and enforce regulations such as those concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, fire safety and accidental prevention
  • Conduct road and harvest block boundary layout and assessments
  • Providing support to the Lands Consultation Manager and the Director

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Grade 12, plus post-secondary training in field survey techniques. Three to five years of experience, including:

  • Demonstrated organizational ability and composure to work within a specific timeframe, in a fast-paced climate
  • Ability to work with the public and staff at all levels within the organization with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment
  • Read, understand, and comply with DTFN safety policy, safe work practices, procedures, and rules
  • Firsthand application and use of computer systems and applications
  • Strong field skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and willingness to work outdoors under adverse conditions

LANDS CONSULTATION MANAGER – CHATEH

The Lands Consultation Manager reports to the Director of Lands and is responsible for providing technical expertise relating to DTFN resource activities.

Duties Include:

  • Works closely with land negotiators to review and interpret incoming agreements, notices, and proposals as well as to clarify contract terms and ensure accuracy in recording information in the DTFN land system
  • Acts in the best interest of DTFN to monitor land use agreements
  • Assists the Director in developing and implementing sound initiatives for land consultation, oversees the daily activities of staff and contracted services, and prepares and manages operating budgets
  • Updates and develops policies and procedures and makes recommendations to the Director
  • Consults with the Director and community members to ensure a clear, consistent, and accountable approach to consultation with industry and government that reflects DTFN Sustainability Business Plan and related principles

Qualifications:

Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Land Administration related field from a recognized post-secondary institution. Five to seven years of progressive supervisory experience in Land Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including:

  • Strong working knowledge of all standard industry contracts; and lease and contract interpretation and procedures
  • Proven ability to deal directly with staff and clients in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Solid project management, planning, organizing and critical thinking skills. Effective management, team building, leadership, and supervisory strengths. Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent customer service

Director Of Emergency Services

The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) is inviting applications from experienced members for the position of Director of Emergency Services. This (contract) position is full-time and offers a competitive benefits package.

 

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations, the Director of Emergency Services shall be responsible for coordinating Emergency Management, including but not limited to planning, training, resourcing, reporting, and chairing meetings. The Director of Emergency Services shall work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure success for all areas that align with the values and principles of Dene Tha’ First Nation.

 

Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Acts as Director of Emergency Operations
  • Identifies and coordinates the Emergency Management Committee
  • Arranges for Emergency Management training
  • Coordinates emergency services and resources during an emergency or major event
  • Prepares and coordinates Emergency Plans and Programs, activates Emergency Plan
  • Organizes and chairs meetings
  • Provides daily situation reports during an emergency
  • Report and provide updates to AEMA First Nation Field Officer representative
  • Work with Chief and Council to issue a State of Local Emergency – SOLE (NCR/BCR)
  • Competently lead a group of people and programs and provide direction to management and front-line staff
  • Implements and maintains emergency planning in accordance with Dene Tha’ First Nation policy and procedures.
  • Provides oversight for the daily directing, administering, guiding, and supervising of staff.
  • Manages risk, conflict, and crisis situations well and make a balanced risk analysis both prospectively and retroactively.
  • Manages partnerships and liaise with resource providers/representatives while ensuring Dene Tha’ First Nations’ interests.
  • Provides visible safety leadership by championing the implementation of:
    • safety practices
    • monitoring safety performance
    • addressing areas for improvement
      • noting success
      • encouraging staff engagement,
    • supports the investigation of safety related incidents
    • implementation of corrective or preventative actions
