3 FULL-TIME YOUTH MENTORS

Positions available in Chateh, Meander River and Bushe River

 

Dene Tha’ First Nation’s Health Department is currently accepting applications to fill (3) positions for Youth Mentors. There is one position to support the community of Chateh, one to support the community of Bushe and one to support the community of Meander. These are each full-time, one-year positions with benefits. The (3) Youth Mentors will support DTFN’s new Youth Mentorship Program. The designated Youth Mentor will guide the children and youth through activities and programs while ensuring access to resources, supports, and opportunities that will enable them to overcome barriers.

 

The Youth Mentors will be expected to work five days per week. Three days will be allocated to facilitate children and youth activities and programming, one day for interactive family sessions and one day for program planning. Specific training will be provided for the Youth Mentors.

 

Duties Include:

  • Facilitate interactive children and youth activities including on the land traditional programs, arts, crafts, games sessions, music, creative writing, mental health awareness sessions on suicide, substance abuse, depression, bullying, healthy relationships, proper diet and exercise, culture, tradition and language.
  • Offer a variety of program options that use cultural values and beliefs and emphasize personal growth.
  • Program planning to be completed on a weekly basis by each Youth Mentor. Programming will be split into different age groups to cover age-appropriate material and be holistic in nature.
  • Transporting the children and youth to a variety of events to build networks, participate in activities, reduce barriers, and strengthen individual skillsets. Vehicles will be provided by the DTFN’s Health Department.
  • Identify and support children or youth who are either in a high-risk situation or demonstrating early signs or symptoms of behavioral or health related issues.
  • Confidential record keeping and discretion when identifying possible children that would benefit from family home visits and/or additional professional health assessments.
  • Lead and coordinate weekly family home visits with identified children and youth.
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and design an action plan in partnership with the family and Health professionals as required for the child or youth.
  • Provide support to families coping with the stress of health-related concerns regarding their child or youth.
  • Engage Elders when required to help with cultural teachings and healing.
  • Explore leveraging opportunities with other stakeholders in order to help fund initiatives and to increase availability of resources.
  • Create linkages and maintain a network of community, regional, and provincial services and programs.
  • Prepare presentations, brochures, reports and any other related material.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with children and youth.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with the public and the Health Department staff with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality pertaining to health records.
  • Read, understand and comply with DTFN safety policy, safe work practices, procedures and rules.
  • Hands-on application and use of computer systems and applications.
  • Understand Dene language.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must have own transportation and a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and must provide a clear Criminal Record Check.

Field Technician – Chateh, AB

FIELD TECHNICIAN

CHATEH, AB

 

The Dene Tha’ First Nation is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Field Technician for the Lands Dept. based out of the Chateh administration office. This is a full-time permanent position with benefits.

 

Duties Include:

 

  • Conduct, supervise and participate in field surveys and field measurements following acceptable operational procedures. Provides technical advice to DTFN.
  • Implement, supervise, and perform technical functions in natural resource development operations involving site preparation, construction, and monitoring.
  • Monitor activities of resource companies and contractors and enforce regulations such as those concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, fire safety and accidental prevention.
  • Conduct road and harvest block boundary layout and assessments.
  • Providing support to the Lands Consultation Manager and the Director.

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Grade 12, plus post-secondary training in field survey techniques. Three to five years of experience including:

  • Demonstrated organizational ability and composure to work within a specific timeframe, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public and staff at all levels within the organization with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment.
  • Read, understand, and comply with DTFN safety policy, safe work practices, procedures, and rules.
  • Microsoft Office Computer skills.
  • Strong field skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and willingness to work outdoors under adverse conditions.

Trapper Liaison – Chateh, AB

TRAPPER LIAISON

CHATEH, AB

 

The Dene Tha’ First Nation is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Trapper Liaison for the Lands Dept. based out of the Chateh Admin. Office. This is a full-time permanent position with benefits.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between trappers, government agencies, NGO’s, and other stakeholders to ensure voices are heard, their concerns are heard and addressed and other contributions recognized.
  • Provide support to trappers by helping them access resources, services, and registered trapline administration that can help them succeed in their commercial small fur-bearing trade and Treaty rights activities.
  • Advocate for trappers’ rights to ensure that their traditional knowledge, practices, and rights are recognized and respected by governments and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate trapping activities to ensure that they are conducted in a sustainable and responsible manner and, in accordance with Indigenous laws and practices.
  • Develop and implement management plans with trappers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to develop and implement management plans that promote sustainable and responsible trapping practices while respecting Indigenous rights and practices.
  • Educate the public about the importance of trapping to Indigenous cultures, economies, and ecosystems, including, outreach, education, and awareness-raising activities.
  • Promote collaboration and partnership that support responsible trapping and practices and Indigenous rights.
  • Coordinate trapper and community involvement in Lands Department projects are about braiding Traditional knowledge with science and are funded by various Partners and Allies in government, industry, or not-for-profit organizations. These partners and allies may need assistance in planning, facilitating and administrative follow-ups on DTFN’s community-side, with interviews, meetings, field work and other logistical and administrative roles and tasks.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a deep understanding of the Indigenous culture and traditions.
  • Knowledge of traditional practices, and natural resource management.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in remote and challenging environments.
  • Computer and technology skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, DTFN Guardians Survey App)
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License and have transportation.
    • Ability to understand and speak Dene Tha’ language fluently.

 

Educations and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or Diploma in natural resource management, conservation, or a related field. Relevant experience in natural resources management would be an asset.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with Elders, enthusiastic and provide services to the elders in the community.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

 

  • Performing light housekeeping tasks in Elders homes
  • Laundry and meal preparation
  • Transporting Elders for essential shopping needs
  • Reporting Elders in need of medical attention to the Public Health Nurse
  • Completing daily and monthly activity reports
  • Promote independence & wellbeing of clients

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Must have effective written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the needs of elderly and incapacitated clients
  • Ability to speak the Dene language is a definite asset
  • Must have First Aid.

Community Health Representative

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Health Services department has a position to be filled for a Community Health Representative, based out of the Four Chiefs Complex in Bushe River. This is a full-time position with benefits. Candidate must live in the area as travel is not provided.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Promote awareness of various community health services programs.
  • Provide cross-cultural instruction & act as a liaison between health care providers and community leaders and/or members.
  • Provide pre-natal and post-natal support to expectant mothers.
  • Record clients’ health history and provide an assessment of needs.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of immunizations to prevent, monitor and control communicable diseases.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate community health plans.
  • Assist members and families who have special needs due to physical disabilities and/or psychological conditions.
  • Promote the importance of healthy lifestyles within the community.

 

Qualifications:

The DTFN Natural Gas Utility has a full-time position available for a Gas Utility Clerk/Bookkeeper based out of their main office in Chateh. Location can be negotiable.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

 

·         Respond to public inquiries
·         Receive, direct and relay telephone and email messages
·         Provide word processing and secretarial support

·         Record and input all pertinent information providing efficiency, accuracy, and confidentiality

·         Maintain the general filing system and file all correspondence

·         Other miscellaneous and administrative functions

Qualifications:
