Maintenance Worker – Chateh Health Center

The DTFN Operations and Maintenance Department (OMD) is currently seeking to fill a vacant position for a full-time Building Maintenance Worker in Chateh based out of the Health Centre/Nursing Station. Must live in the area, travel is not provided.

DUTIES Include:

  • Regular maintenance of buildings, doing minor repairs, ensuring walkways and grounds are maintained
  • Reporting any problems to the proper department
  • Other duties as maybe required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Experience/training in building maintenance
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical repairs
  • Ability to read blue prints and maintenance manuals
  • Have good communication and written skills
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
  • Must have reliable transportation

Daycare Worker or Daycare Supervisor – Bushe River

The Dene Tha’ First Nation has a position available immediately based out of the Rising Generations Daycare Centre in Bushe River. One full-time daycare worker or Supervisor position.

Daycare Worker Position

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan, organize and lead daily activities that aim to stimulate the intellectual, physical and emotional growth of children
  • Must assist with the preparation of educational programs
  • Maintain constant supervision indoors and outdoors
  • Assist the children with their everyday needs

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Child Care Level 2 certificate (*Must provide a copy)
  • Valid First Aid / CPR certification (*Must provide a copy)
  • Must be dependable and reliable with strong communication skills
  • Must be capable of taking instruction from supervisor
  • Enjoy working with young children
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and must have reliable transportation

Daycare Supervisor Position

Responsible for all duties related to the efficient daily operation of the daycare centre and provides supervision and training to staff; reports to the Economic Development Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership in the development of programs to assist in the intellectual, physical and social aspects of the children’s development within the policies established by the Nation and the requirements of the Child Care Licensing Act.
  • Ensure a healthy and nurturing atmosphere
  • Maintain constant supervision at all times (Indoor and Outdoor)
  • Encourage open communication with parents
  • Must be available for any training requirements and meetings
  • Other duties as may be required by the Manager

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Child Care Level 3 certificate (*Must provide a copy)

School Bus Drivers

Dene Tha’ Education has openings for School Bus Drivers based in Chateh.
Duties include helping get Dene Tha’ Community School children safely and responsibly to and from school Monday through Friday, on an assigned route. Perform daily pre-trip inspections. Communicate clearly with students, parents, school employees and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner. Keep bus clean, fueled and safe.
Seeking compassionate, safety-oriented individuals who are reliable and flexible, as these positions may involve travelling on weekends and holidays; in all weather conditions.
The successful candidate must possess a valid Class 2 Driver’s License with “S” Endorsement and previous driving experience; provide a Driver’s Abstract with the application; and must provide a clear Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare clearance. Director of Education

The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) is recruiting a Director of Education. This is a full-time (2-year contract) position with a competitive benefits package.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Education.
  • A minimum three (3) years related experience which includes leading Aboriginal services, program and/or policy development, and/or education and community development.
  • Proven experience in alternate program development.
  • In depth understanding of Aboriginal cultures, histories, protocols, issues, demographics and social structures, especially within Alberta.
  • Excellent planning, administrative, organizational, project management and budget management skills.
  • Ability to plan strategically, initiate action and achieve desired outcomes for multiple initiatives in both political as well as culturally sensitive environments.
  • Ability to work as an integral team member and provide leadership to teams and working committees, achieving goals using consultative and collegial processes.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive and complex information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of aboriginal education policies and procedures as set out by Federal and Provincial governments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with First Nations people in Northern Alberta.
  • Experience teaching First Nations students.
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of First Nations culture and traditions.

Responsibilties: Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations.

Tasks will include:

  • Assigning Responsibilities as needed.
  • Evaluate and signing off teachers performance evaluation.
  • Establishing a budget.
  • Setting the Stage (which includes reviewing the vision, mission and goals of the Dene Tha’ First Nation Education Authority (DTFN), and developing a long range plan for increasing literacy, numeracy and graduation rates (high school and post-secondary).
  • Renegotiation of provincial tuition agreements and forging partnerships with NAIT, Northern Lakes College, Fort Vermillion School Division and other post-secondary institutions.
  • Developing a local school board.
  • Travel required.

Senior Accountant – Chateh

The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) Administration Department is currently recruiting a Senior Accountant based out of the Administration office in Chateh. The position is full time and offers a competitive benefits package.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for the professional support to the Director of Corporate Services in the evaluation of financial performance, financial control, and internal audit.  The Senior Accountant ensures the sound operation of an accounting system resulting in a presentation of DTFN Balance Sheet and Income Statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

 Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Providing daily direction to staff regarding all accounting systems, cost effectiveness, and records accuracy
  • Balancing general ledger and other subsidiary accounts
  • Reconciling and analyzing monthly billing, accounts receivable and general ledger postings and balances
  • Providing leadership and acting as a resource person to financial program staff to ensure a high degree of accuracy and completeness
  • Initiating, developing , and refining the DTFN financial reporting procedures to ensure monthly financial statements and practices meet the required expectations
  • Preparing accounting journal entries and accounting reports within the processes and procedures established by DTFN
  • Performing other related duties as required or assigned by the Director

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in commerce or accounting
  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation or equivalent (ie) CA, CMA, CGA
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations Organizational setting
  • Strong, effective financial management skills
  • Cash management experience
  • Must have a combination of training and experience in the use of computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office and Accpac
  • Solid planning, organizing and problem-solving skills
  • Effective management, team building, leadership and supervisory strengths
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent customer service
  • Familiarity with applicable federal and provincial statutes and some administrative law
  • Must be bondable
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation

Community Liaison Workers

The Dene Tha’ Social Development Program is seeking to fill (3) term positions. The employment project will be for a period of nine (9) months commencing July 2, 2018 to March 31, 2019.  These individuals will work closely with the Dene Tha’ Social Development Program Income Support Workers on a referral basis to provide supports to clients and ensure clients connect to all services available to them both within the Nation as well as off reserve.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and/or reliable transportation.
  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Experience working in a public service provider setting.
  • Highly organized, dedicated, timely, hard-working, responsible and enthusiastic.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work in a team environment as well as independently when required.
  • Full knowledge of MS programs.
  • Must demonstrate familiarity with public services available to individuals both on and off reserve.

ASETS Technician – Bushe River

The Dene Tha’ First Nation Economic Development Program currently has a position available for an ASETS Technician for the communities of Bushe River and Meander River. This is a full-time TEMPORARY POSITION ONLY for approximately 2-3 months. This position will be located out of the Administration Office in Bushe River.  

 Duties and Responsibilities include:

  •          Implementing, monitoring, and evaluating activities related to the employment and training needs of the First Nation
  •        Providing employment counseling, placements, assistance/referrals, job searches and related services to the First Nation members
  •        Arranging training and job search strategies
  •        Serving as a liaison for First Nation members with various industries for job and training placements
  •             Locating funding sources from government, industry, and First Nation programs
  •             Maintaining a database of employment history, certifications, education/skills of First Nation members
  •            Performing other related duties as required or assigned by the Ec. Dev. Manager

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 supplemented by a Business Administration certificate
  • 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Summer Student – HSE Assistant – N’deh Limited Partnership

N’deh Limited Partnership is seeking to fill the position for HSE Assistant. This is a Full-time summer employment position based out of the N’deh office in Bushe River.

Job Description:
Reporting to the N’deh HSE Supervisor, the HSE Assistant is a safety sensitive position, requiring a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The HSE Assistant must strictly adhere to all N’deh Policy, rules, and procedures and all provincial and federal regulations and laws at all times while working for N’deh. HSE Assistant must set an example for employees, subcontractors, and clients.

Duties Include:

  • Assist HSE Supervisor with field visits and conduct safety meetings and inspections.
  • Assist with inspections for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first aid supplies
  • Participates in monitoring HSE standards and applicable laws and regulations
  • Assists in maintaining COR certification
  • Other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be between 15-30 years of age
  • Must be returning to high school or post secondary institution Fall of 2018
  • Must have Oil & Gas field tickets (First aid, WHMIS/TDG, H2S alive)
  • Must have PPE, CSA approved work boots, hard hat, gloves, Hi-vis vest
  • Capable of working productively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
