The Dene Tha’ First Nation (DTFN) Social Development Program is recruiting a Director for Social Development based out of the Administration office in Chateh, Alberta. This is a full-time (2-year contract) position with a competitive benefits package.

Position Summary

The Dene Tha’ First Nation delivers services and programs to three fully accessible communities-Bushe River, Chateh (formerly known as Assumption), and Meander River. Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations, this position is responsible for developing, promoting, and delivering a comprehensive community service program for the DTFN and its membership. The Director will advise senior administration on the development and use of all DTFN social development programs and services. Provides support and assistance to the community in the overall provision of DTFN social income programs and services. Focuses upon achieving a better quality of life for DTFN through providing programs and services with an emphasis on a healthy community.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Evaluates the effectiveness of the department’s policies, programs, and resources to stated objectives, reviews issues and makes recommendations to the EDO. Monitors all appropriate budgets on a regular basis and adheres to prescribed deadlines. Directs and evaluates operational/capital requirements and service delivery and maximizes efficiencies by seeking grants, reviewing contracting opportunities, utilizing outside expertise, fostering partnerships, altering operational delivery, applying current technology, and providing appropriate staff training. Attends all meetings as required. Accountable for Human Resource policies, and a system of performance standards for staff with the monitoring of complete performance reviews of all staff on an annual basis. Develops a positive and proactive Customer Service philosophy throughout the department. Responds to member inquiries and complaints according to approved procedures. Responsible for overseeing all DTFN social income programs, and home care. Directs and coordinates staff in the implementation of programs and projects. Liaises with other First Nations, senior officials of the Federal and Provincial Governments, industry and DTFN members regarding funding, programs and services developed at the community level. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the EDO.

Qualifications:

Degree in a related field such as Community Development, Social Sciences, or Aboriginal Community Administration. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience and positions in the public and/or private sector including: effective management, team building, facilitation, negotiation, leadership, and supervisory strengths, with a commitment for continuous improvement. Personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills as well as a high degree of integrity and professionalism. Strong capacity to identify needs, plan and develop goals, priorities, and other outcome measures. Hands-on application and use of computer systems and applications. Solid understanding of community based, preventative social development and voluntary management. FOIP and PIPA training.  The successful candidate must be bondable, have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation, and be willing to travel. Must also lead and maintain an addiction free life style. Remuneration dependent on qualification and experience.
