Fiber Optic Technician

Posting Summary
N’Deh Limited Partnership is seeking a Fiber Optic Technician to support the installation, splicing, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic infrastructure. The successful candidate will work safely as part of a field team, complete accurate testing and documentation, and may travel to remote project locations as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, splice, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic cable.
- Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multimode fiber optic cable.
- Prepare fiber cables, splice closures, distribution panels, termination boxes, and related equipment.
- Conduct OTDR, optical power meter, light-source, continuity, and visual fault testing as required.
- Interpret fiber plans, construction drawings, splice diagrams, maps, and project specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot fiber faults, signal loss, damaged cable, poor splices, and connection problems.
- Maintain accurate splice records, test results, cable information, photographs, as-built information, and daily field documentation.
- Follow N’Deh Limited Partnership and client health and safety requirements, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment.
- Communicate project progress, deficiencies, material requirements, testing results, and field issues to the supervisor.
- Travel to remote worksites and work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Fiber optic technician training, telecommunications training, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience is preferred.
- Experience with fiber optic installation, fusion splicing, termination, and testing is preferred.
- Experience using fusion splicers, OTDRs, optical power meters, visual fault locators, and related fiber tools is an asset.
- Ability to read fiber plans, splice diagrams, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Ability to travel and work at remote locations, including overnight stays when required.
- Standard First Aid/CPR and applicable workplace safety certifications are preferred or must be obtained as required.
- Ground Disturbance, CSTS, WHMIS, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, and other client-required certifications are assets.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew.
Work Conditions
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors at construction, industrial, commercial, and remote locations.
- Regular exposure to changing weather conditions, dust, noise, uneven terrain, and construction-related hazards.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working with hand tools and test equipment.
- Use of required personal protective equipment.
- Travel and overnight stays may be required.
- Flexible hours may be required, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs depending on project requirements.
