Brighter Future Support Worker
Dene Tha’ First Nation’s Health Department is recruiting a Brighter Future Support Worker for the community.
Chateh, AB. The primary goal of the BF Support Worker is to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of families by promoting healthy communities. The worker serves as a vital link between community-based programs focused on health promotion, ill-health prevention, and early childhood development. This is a full-time term position until further notice.
Duties Include:
- Support Brighter Futures Coordinator with planning and implementing community programs and workshops focusing on mental health, child development and injury prevention.
- Assist with promoting programs promote healthy family environments, and provide resources to parents in their home environment.
- Conduct individual or group awareness and change attitudes regarding nutrition, physical health, and injury prevention.
- Provide confidential support and assistance, guidance and advocacy to help families navigate and access external wellness and social services.
- Support families with accessing funding for training, finances, social/occupational skills, and personal goals.
- Maintain confidential records, prepare reports, and track program outcomes for evaluation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12, or equivalent, Social Work or Early Childhood Education.
- Ability to work with the public and staff at all organizational levels with minimal supervision in a multi-tasking environment.
- Read, understand, and comply with DTFN safety policy, safe work practices, procedures, and rules.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Sensitive and understanding of First Nations communities and knowledge of culturally appropriate practices is often a requirement or strong asset.
- Hands-on application and use of computer systems is an asset.
- First Aid/CPR.
Other Requirements:
- Must have own transportation and a Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and must provide a clear Criminal Record with a Vulnerable Sector Check.
