2 – AFL Program Leaders for the community of Meander River, AB
Dene Tha First Nation is hosting Alberta’s Future Leaders Program to provide a summer youth program. Youth will be engaged through sport, recreation, leadership, and cultural activities facilitated by mentors from your community and one externally. You will create and lead meaningful experiences for youth in Meander River, AB.
As a Mentor, you will:
- Employed from approximately April 27, 2026, to August 30, 2026
- Organize and coordinate daily sport, recreation, leadership and cultural activities with a fellow mentor
- Deliver engaging and purposeful programming that responds to community needs
- Align programming to Arctic Sport & Dene Games in support of the Arctic Winter Games and other programs
- Fulfill AFL program requirements and host community expectations
- Promote active and healthy lifestyles
- Build strong relationships with youth and community
Wage:
- Mentors are contract employees of the host community and will be paid an hourly wage of $22.50 per hour for the summer based on 40 hours a week.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Previous experience working with youth
Mandatory Requirements
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
- A Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector check
Skills and Attributes:
- Previous experience in.
- Working with youth
- planning, organizing, and implementing sport, recreation, leadership or cultural programs
- creating safe and welcoming environments
- working independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, creative, adaptive and flexible problem-solving skills
- Experience with conflict resolution and working in demanding situations
- Knowledge of self-care strategies and healthy coping mechanisms
Assets:
- Enrollment in a relevant post-secondary program: Native Studies, Physical Education, Recreation, Education, Social Work, Child/Youth Care, or related fields
- Class 4 or 5 Driver’s License
- Personal Vehicle
- Mental Health First Aid Training / Trauma Informed Care
- Suicide Awareness Training
