ADDICTIONS COUNSELOR
for MEANDER RIVER, AB
The Dene Tha’ First Nation Family & Community Wellness Services is seeking an Addictions Counselor to fill a full-time position in the community of Meander River. This is counseling work in substance abuse, family violence, parenting, and suicide prevention.
Duties Include:
• Counsel and assess the needs of clients and make appropriate arrangements for treatment.
• Provides continuing support services where needed.
• Maintains efficient working arrangements with resource services such as Native Counseling, Mental Health Services, Nursing Stations, AADAC, RCMP stations and Schools.
• Help develop and present education programs designed to address the needs in the areas of family violence, suicide prevention, substance abuse and parenting.
• Participates in “Interventions” and acts as an advocate for members of the community.
• Maintains highly confidential records and prepares routine and special reports.
• Ability to be on-call including after hours and weekends.
Position Requirements:
• Grade 12, supplemented with post-secondary courses in the social work field and two years related work experience.
• Nechi training, workshops for substance abuse, family violence, parenting, and suicide prevention.
• First Aid/CPR is a definite asset.
• Excellent communication skills and people skills.
• Ability to speak the Dene language.
Additional requirements: Lead an addictions-free lifestyle; have own transportation; possess a valid Driver’s License; provide a Criminal Record with a Vulnerable Sector check.
