TREATY 8 ANNUITIES CLAIM:
UPDATE AND TIMELINE FOR ANNUITIES COMPENSATION
A Ratification Vote was held on February 25, 2026, to determine if the Voters of Dene Tha’ First Nation approve the Treaty 8 Annuities Specific Claim Compensation Agreement (the “Compensation Agreement”) between Canada and Dene Tha’ First Nation and the related Trust Agreements. The Ratification Vote was successful, meaning that the Compensation Agreement and Trust Agreements were approved.
As an update, the Compensation Agreement has been signed by Dene Tha’ Chief and Council and submitted to Canada. We are now waiting for Canada to sign the Compensation Agreement. We do not know when Canada will sign. However, once Canada signs, it has 45 days to transfer the compensation money to the Compensation Trust. From there, the Trustee will begin distributing payments to eligible members.
